Job Summary

The Aircraft Mechanic I – Corrosion Control Mechanic Performs organizational level corrosion control on assigned aircraft under contract to Amentum at PT Mugu, CA. Technical duties include corrosion control methods and procedures to maximize protection of the interior and exterior surfaces of assigned aircraft.

  • Interpret Maintenance Instruction Manuals, maintenance requirement cards, work from related schematics, diagrams, drawings, technical directives, maintenance/servicing instructions and operational written procedures and Company directives to perform maintenance.
  • Mixes all types of chemical solvents and applies in the prescribed manner so as to clean various surfaces.
  • Must have a working knowledge and use of hand and power tools associated with corrosion control and specialized corrosion control equipment.
  • Perform aircraft wash and cleaning components.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting operations by cleaning, stripping, sanding, polishing, masking, spackling, and sandblasting.
  • Apply the appropriate primer and paint to the properly prepared surfaces.
  • Maintains foreign object damage (FOD), hazardous waste, and tool control programs Shall adhere to all applicable Amentum policies and procedures.
  • Possess a high degree of expertise of aircraft systems.
  • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of applicable maintenance/technical manuals, publications, instructions and special tools and test equipment.
  • Must be familiar with operational capabilities and limitations of aircraft systems.
  • Possess a thorough working knowledge of the detection, prevention and treatment of corrosion.
  • Must be customer oriented
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements of the position in accordance with NAVAIRINST 3710.1 series.
  • Initial Medical Provider clearance for the use of respirators and Isocyanate recurring annual physical examination required.
  • Physical conditioning will require the use of selected personal protective equipment (PPE) such as, but not limited to wearing of a NIOSH approved respirator, protective clothing, (i.e. Tyvek, Coveralls, gloves and protective eyewear).
  • This classification activity is usually accomplished in a hangar/shop/flight line environment and as such requires the scope of physical movements and postures normally associated with these activities.
  • Position regularly requires standing, walking, use of hands and fingers to handle, grip or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and to talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to climb or balance and work in small spaces and ladder work and working at heights at or above 40 feet is required.
  • Must be able to routinely lift and/or move weights in excess of OSHA standards.
  • The diversity of work conditions may range from an environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes of temperature, wind, rain, snow, ice, etc.
  • May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail.
  • May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
  • May be exposed to electrical shock hazards.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Shall have completed Aircraft Corrosion Control Course N-701-0013 or C-600-3183. Aircraft Paint Touch-up and Coatings Maintenance Course N-701-0014 as required, or equivalent.
  • Shall have 3 years USN/USMC/USCG O-level CNAFINST 4790.2 aircraft maintenance support experience, or equivalent experience considered for this requirement.
  • Shall be qualified according to their field of expertise and the level of maintenance assigned.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Required to obtain a Govt. issued Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain any company/government required qualifications, certificatsion, or clearance.
  • Shall possess or can qualify for a U.S. states driver’s license.
  • Must be able to work all assigned shifts & schedules.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred to have 3 years’ experience within the last 7 years in corrosion detection, treatment, and prevention.
  • May be required to travel as business necessity.
